Imagining Connections to End Sexual Violence: A Plenary Dialogue on Day 2

Preventing sexual violence on university campuses requires collaboration between governments, university administrators, university staff, students, and community organizations. Expansive and effective prevention efforts cannot occur from any of these points alone; rather, cross-community, inter-institutional, intra-institutional, and interpersonal relationships are imperative to impact the cultural and institutional changes necessary to prevent sexual violence on university campuses.

This panel will bring together four speakers, each with significant experience working to address rape culture on university campuses, to imagine how differently-located change-makers and diverse stakeholders can build stronger connections to end sexual violence.

Facilitator: Brea Hutchinson (Coordinator of OPIRG Kingston)

Hayley Moody (Sexual Violence Counsellor & Advocate at Sexual Assault Centre of Brant)

Yami Msosa (Public Educator at Sexual Assault Support Centre, Ottawa)

Samina Sami (Executive Director of Community Safety, York University)

Julie LaLonde (Public Educator and Manager of Draw-the-Line Campaign)

On Day 2, conference attendees will hear from these plenary participants and experienced anti-violence advocates as they discuss successes and barriers to creating connections to build campuses free of sexual violence.
